Psalms 23

May 3, 2026    Pastor Dave Gargano

What happens when God's people forget that mercy and goodness are literally following them every single day? Pastor Dave delivered a powerful conclusion to his Psalms 23 series, reminding Road to Life Church that they have two constant companions they may not even recognize. Walking through David's timeless psalm, Dave revealed how God prepares us through trials (not despite them), protects us in valleys we must walk through (not around), and provides tables of blessing right in front of our enemies. His most striking insight? That preparation often feels painful because God is refining us for destinations we couldn't handle without His transforming work. Dave challenged the congregation with raw honesty about human nature—acknowledging that left to ourselves, we choose wickedness, and spiritual maturity isn't about time served but authentic relationship with Christ. The sermon climaxed with the revelation that Goodness and Mercy are our daily companions, following believers everywhere, while God doesn't give us what we deserve but lavishes grace instead. As worship filled the sanctuary and people responded to the altar call, the urgent truth became clear: if you can recognize God's faithfulness behind you, you can trust His provision ahead of you. Stop running from God's refining process and start embracing the overflow life He's preparing for you today.

Psalms 23 The Lord is my shepherd;

I shall not want.

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside the still waters.

3 He restores my soul;

He leads me in the paths of righteousness

For His name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil;

For You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil;

My cup runs over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

All the days of my life;

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord

Forever.

Psalm 84:11 says For the Lord God is a sun and shield;

The Lord will give grace and glory;

No good thing will He withhold

From those who walk uprightly.

Psalms 34:9-10

Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!

There is no want to those who fear Him.

10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger;

But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

Psalms 85:12 Yes, the Lord will give what is good;

And our land will yield its increase.
